Gorillaz Are Back In Full Swing

Gorillaz’ latest album “Humanz” is officially out and after almost six years of hiatus the band is back, banging on their chests and pummelling the political zeitgeist. Their last album “The Fall” was released in 2010 which was only nine months after the third studio album, “Plastic Beach” and although there’s been years of silence it’s safe to say the beast has finally awoken. With the release of the latest album comes a full north american tour.  This tour includes several headlining slots at major music festivals with appearances at Quebec City Summer Festival and San Francisco’s Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival. The band can also be seen performing at New York’s Meadows Music Festival, Las Vegas’ Life is Beautiful Festival, and Miami’s iii Points Festival.  The tour kicks off July 8th at Huntington Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island in Chicago.

The live performances will be nothing short of the vivid, visual eye candy the Gorillaz became known for. Technology has come a long way since the tail-end of the 90’s, however, and creating a band that exists outside the confinements of reality gives a lot of freedom to translate to the live stage. In the early years those live performances consisted of hazy pixelated images and patterns instead of the crisp, Ultra HD, interactive 3D images we now know.  The beauty of watching a Gorillaz live show is being able to see the latest technology take the stage and with the incredible advancements in tech over the past 7 years we’re certain to witness some groundbreaking digital art featuring these characters we’ve known for so long coming to life in ways we would never have dreamed of back in the 90’s.

The Gorillaz did an AMA on reddit this morning along with the release of the new album.
